Teaching Blockchain Week

Teaching Blockchain

Phew!

I just surfaced from an intense Blockchain teaching experience. I surfaced simultaneously strong and pooped. A good pooped.

A few bumps along the road. To be expected and accepted. Don’t we learn more from toppling off the proverbial bike now and then than we do from our easy high-five moments?

The principle that taps eternally on my temple is that quality content is the base currency of teaching – and creating it ain’t easy. Underestimate the effort of Content Creation at your peril. Is the course content concise, cohesive, comprehensive? Have we defined what’s out of scope, too? Is the story engaging?

‘Yes’ is the right answer. ‘Not yet’ means late nights and 5AM rise times. Rise times, it was.

I confirmed (for the n-th time) that teaching adults is good fit for me. Adults arrive motivated which plays to my strength as I don’t naturally motivate others. Support, yes. Encourage, yes. Mentor, yes. Those I do without effort. Motivate, um, no, not effortless for me.

I particularly enjoyed teaching students at their unique starting point along the Blockchain learning path. I didn’t fully succeed but I doggedly tried. Remote learning has certainly upped the difficulty target – it’s hard to see the whites of their eyes.

Delightfully, I was reminded that even while teaching I am a learner, too. Collaborating with spectacularly educated and experienced technical and business professionals who were eager to bring their insight, vision and wisdom to our knowledge table was an opportunity to grow.

So, at the right moments, I encouraged participation and stepped away from the lectern. Pros like these expand the class’ learning scope beyond the detail of Blockchain with real world vertical market expertise. I thank the students for their contribution and the program sponsor for my opportunity to contribute, too.

Other news, we’re onboarding another Genesis Block Intern next week. We will then be working with students from 3 different high schools.

In addition to neglecting my family last week, I also neglected the Westford Academy Genesis Block team! We’re still modeling The Bitcoin Standard, and we will keep you posted.

Layer 3 discussion: postponed.

Sidetracked from but still working on the Jack Dorsey interview with Michael Saylor, part 1: What does Bitcoin Mean to the World? Stay tuned. I think you’ll enjoy the results.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate your time and support.
