Yesterday afternoon, the 2022 Genesis Block team and I began our blockchain journey together. We met for the first time as a team on the Westford Town Green in front of the Fletcher Library.

I was delighted to finally meet these energetic, interesting and funny students.

To break the social ice, I asked each about their current activities and next year University plan. They each shared openly about themselves and joked easily with each other.

When I handed out copies of The Bitcoin Standard, our text for Phase 1, the interns reached forward hesitantly as if I was offering pieces of moldy bread. “A what?”, I imagined them saying to themselves after I said that I had a book for them to read.

We shared a laugh when none of them could remember the last time anyone had gifted them a physical book. Kids these days…or should I say ‘Parents these days…’?

So, Phase 1: The interns have been tasked with reading through Chapters 1 and 2, then taking their best shot at building a domain model together (all while I sit around sipping coffee and writing blog posts).

These two chapters represent the first steps we must take as a team to establish our baseline understanding of the principles of money and its functions. This baseline understanding is the foundation we will build upon to be able to evaluate Bitcoin as a potentially transformational phenomenon.

And so we begin…

Thanks for reading and please leave your comments below as they are always welcomed.
